13_CERTIFICATE
This course is designed for individuals with a good knowledge of English who need to familiarize themselves with maritime events in a business environment. It offers shore-based personnel – most of whom are not familiar with shipping industry jargon in English – a toolkit of Maritime English vocabulary, terms and concepts as well as an understanding of how the industry works. The aim of the course is to provide students with the necessary knowledge and English language competence to enable them to:
  • gain an understanding of the complex world of shipping
  • communicate effectively within a professional environment related to shipping
  • understand the international requirements in place to protect crew and the marine environment
The course is delivered and examined in English.
Upon completion the participant will be able to:
  • use English terms in the appropriate maritime context, having built up specialized vocabulary skills;
  • use business English skills within shipping, and
  • comfortably draft and edit own correspondence documents in English

        • There is a time limit of access of 6 months to fulfill this course starting from the time of your registration.
        Upon successful completion certification is provided by the World Maritime Academy.
        Whilst no formal language competence level qualification is required to attend the course, we are looking for participants that possess an intermediate level of English (B1/B2 Independent User on CEFR). Entry to the course is open to those
        • working or wishing to work in shipping or a shipping-related company who come from a non-seafarer background;
        • who aim to work in management and leadership roles in the shipping industry but have not started their career at sea.
        • personnel managers who wish to train shore-based personnel
        • English language teachers interested in teaching Maritime English and wishing to get acquainted with industry-specific terminology and concepts.
