Effective communication in English is a vital skill for ensuring safety and coordination at sea—especially in today’s globalised maritime environment, where crews often consist of multiple nationalities and native languages. The STCW Convention highlight the importance of a shared working language on board, stating that officers in charge of navigational or engineering watches must demonstrate competent written and spoken English, and that effective communication must be maintained at all times.

Our Seafarers English e-learning course is thoughtfully designed to support effective communication at sea. It draws upon key language competence areas outlined in the STCW Convention, is informed by the IMO Model Course 3.17 (Maritime English), and is developed using our extensive experience in vocational training and university-level maritime education.
