Course Description

The aim of this course is to analyze the two most widely used types of Ship Financing:  Equity and Debt These are the two main sources of finance for the shipping companies, for their operation, acquisition of new vessels and/or their fleet renewal. The language of delivery is English.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
  • study two types of shipping finance, Equity and Debt;
  • learn the advantages and disadvantages of these two types;
  • examine the equity approach, in the form of internal or external financing;
  • learn the features and covenants of bank debt;
  • learn what are the advantages and the disadvantages of a bank loan;
  • acquire knowledge of the events of default in a loan and when a bank calls off a loan;
  • understand restructuring and refinancing;
  • become familiar with finance leasing and its structure;
  • study the main documents of Sale and Lease Back;
  • assess Traditional Bank Financing vs Lease Financing;
  • learn the reasons someone may seek Finance Leasing;
  • understand what are the important factors affecting the choice of the type of funding and evaluate all the parameters.
