This crash course is designed as an introduction to the Offshore Industry, how it developed to what it is today and where it is headed, the milestones, the tools available for the projects, the challenges it faces, its differentiated needs and regulations. We will look at who are the major players – shipowners, operators, agencies, charterers, contractors, drillers – and their role, as well as its ramifications and how the maritime industry cope with the engineering requirements worldwide. Attendants will also learn about the different types of ships that are engaged in this specialized industry, its main characteristics and be provided with a check-list of what to evaluate when chartering a vessel.
The purpose of this course is to provide attendants with:
  • Knowledge on how the oil economy was created and how it consolidated over time;
  • A thorough understanding of the role of different players in the offshore industry;
  • A thorough understanding of the specialized terminology used in the offshore industry;
  • The ability of making use of reliable tools available online to verify information and stay ahead.
  • Relevant information about different types of vessels used in the offshore industry;
